World Sailing Challenge
After sailing into Antigua in 2007 I soon wanted to do something bigger and better.
I wanted to become the youngest person to sail single-handed around the world.
I spent months looking for sponsorship and once I had secured the needed amount, I chartered myself an Open 50 racing yacht. The sailing equivalent of a Ferrari! The yacht spent two months being prepared for the trip in docks in France and the UK.
The trip covered approximately 30,000 nautical miles (45,000 km), taking me across the equator and every single line of longitude on the earth’s surface. The journey was completed under sail by wind and muscle power alone.
Mike Perham claims youngest solo circumnavigation record
On the 27th of August I became the youngest person in the world to sail single-handed around the globe. This has been certified by Guinness World Records. Wow what an incredible feeling!
