Hamilton Island Race Week August 2010
Mike will be taking part in Australia’s largest offshore keelboat regatta
Spectators and yachties from around the globe sail to Hamilton Island in August for the annual Hamilton Island Race Week, Australia’s largest offshore keelboat regatta.
Hamilton Island Race Week is one of Australia’s favourite yachting events and a firm fixture on the international sailing calendar. Competitors, family and friends come together to enjoy the convivial atmosphere and unique camaraderie of the event’s on-water and off-water carnival.
Racing is split into a Grand Prix class for top-class racers; an IRC Passage class for modern fast-cruising yachts; performance racing and sports boat classes. Plus cruising, corporate, bareboat and non-spinnaker divisions.
The Hamilton Island Yacht Club and marina are home to the regatta during the fun and excitement of Race Week. Join in the race festivities and lively calendar of events, including gourmet meals prepared by celebrity chefs, fashion shows, golfing competitions and wine tastings.

Jessica Watson, Don McIntyre, Mike Perham - all at Sydney Boat Show
The 2010 Sydney International Boat Show (July 29-August 2) has in recent years unveiled an interesting line-up of guest speakers that have had show visitors absolutely enthralled. However, this year show organisers the Boating Industry Association of NSW (BIA) have outdone previous efforts. The Better Boating Lounge this year will prove to be a major attraction at a recreational boating exhibition that simply oozes attractions at every turn.
Now, that impressive line-up has been joined by young UK yachtsman Mike Perham, who gained an additional '15-minutes of fame:' in Australia when he boarded Jessica Watson's ‘Ella's Pink Lady' as she sailed down Sydney Harbour to her tumultuous welcome at the Sydney Opera House. Jessica and Mike had become close friends via radio, e-mail and face book as he supported ‘Ella's Pink Lady' throughout the voyage.
